It was -15 overnight on Monday and -11 this morning, yet the lake remains largely unfrozen. The hills of ice and snow in the photos mark the edge of the water. Everything west of these icy hills is frozen solid; everything east remains unfrozen and steaming. The water is sluggish, and if it wasn’t for the sun, perhaps it would freeze. Amazingly, the loons seem oblivious to the frigid temperatures. They just keep diving for fish.
